Stupid is as Stupid Does
I was at the supermarket the other day, minding my own business, when I looked over at the fruits and vegetables. I saw a stupid act that can only be seen and not told, but I’ll try anyway. A woman had opened a sealed carton of strawberries and was munching on one with a sour look on her face like it wasn’t any good. She then passed one to her little daughter who was waiting there like a little hungry bird who had done this many times before. I didn’t say anything as I didn’t want to make a scene, especially in front of the kid. When I got home I started thinking about what happened and remembered this subject as a topic of conversation in the past. It seems that this act is not only common with grocery shopping but a time honored tradition in some circles. I wouldn’t be surprised if I hadn’t imbibed when I was a lad. I guess maybe I can’t throw a metaphorical handful of grapes. Anyway, those stickers that say “cleaned and ready to eat” don’t really mean anything to me anymore. I will not get fanatical about it though. I mean “Stupid is as Stupid Does”, right?
